Using software, we plan the ideal tooth alignment on a virtual model. Teeth can be rotated, moved, and tooth axes can be modified, among other things. All tooth movements are based on medical principles and the laws of anatomy and function. With the software, we can realistically demonstrate the course of therapy and the phases of tooth movement. Before-and-after images serve for better understanding.
Dental and jaw misalignments are often influenced by the general health of the child and various habits. Therefore, we recommend having the development of the teeth checked by an orthodontist at the age of four to five. Not all tooth misalignments require orthodontic measures. Especially in young children, we observe their development. We choose the optimal time to start orthodontic treatment so that the duration of treatment is as short as possible. This generally depends on the severity of the misalignment.
This question depends on various factors. With removable braces, a high level of discipline is required because wearing the appliance regularly determines the success of the treatment. Additionally, the severity of the misalignment needs to be considered; we provide individualized advice. Examples of removable braces include the activator, bionator, and functional regulator.
The costs of braces can be estimated well after a thorough diagnosis and planning. Every orthodontic treatment is individual, and the approaches vary. There are various measures depending on the initial situation and the desires and expectations of the patient. The costs of orthodontic therapy depend, among other factors, on the extent of the dental correction and the duration of treatment. We are happy to provide detailed and non-binding information after an initial diagnosis.
This type of braces can be inserted and removed by the patient. They are primarily worn at night and, if necessary, for a few hours during the day. The advantage of these braces is that they can be taken out for eating and brushing, which is particularly beneficial for preventing tooth decay. These braces are excellent for creating space in children with crowded teeth or influencing jaw growth. Typical examples of this type of braces, used in our practice as well, are the "active plate," "activator," or "bionator."
The patient cannot remove this type of braces. The brackets of the fixed braces are bonded to the teeth and are only removed at the end of the treatment. A small slot is created in the brackets, where a metal wire is placed. The brackets serve as "handles" for the archwire. With fixed braces, there is greater control over each individual tooth compared to removable braces, allowing for tooth movements that are not achievable with removable braces. Even severely tilted, rotated, or displaced teeth can be brought into the correct position using fixed braces.
Since fixed braces cannot be removed for eating or brushing, maintaining excellent oral hygiene is extremely important!
Aligners are a hybrid form of braces, combining features of both fixed and removable braces. The central element of aligners is clear, nearly invisible trays that move the teeth. Unlike other removable devices, aligners are worn almost all the time, only being briefly removed for eating and brushing. To achieve a similar level of control over the teeth as with fixed braces, small attachments called "attachments" are bonded to some (not all!) teeth. These attachments are tooth-colored and nearly invisible, similar to the trays. Cleaning the teeth is not significantly hindered by the attachments. With aligners, you get the best of both worlds: the unrestricted cleaning ability of removable braces and improved control over individual teeth, similar to fixed braces.
